Bronte Sisters

Last night I finished The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte. Thus completing my Bronte sisters reading list. (I’m not sure what to read for “classics” now. Any recommendations? Assume I haven’t read any of them. However, Dracula and Frankenstein are off limits because I’m going to be reading them for book club).

I didn’t really like Wuthering Heights. Mainly because I didn’t see the love between Catherine and Heathcliff. That and all the characters seemed whiny to me. I watched the movie (I don’t remember which version) and I liked that better than the book. Blasphemy, I know!

I loved Jane Eyre. I loved the characters and I was glad with how it ended. My mom and I read this one together and tonight we’re going to watch the movie and compare it with the book.

The Tenant (which I’ve been spelling wrong this entire time. How embarrassing) of Wildfell Hall was a close second to Jane Eyre. I enjoyed the characters here too and the narration was pretty good. I think this was my favorite ending of the three although I was pleased with how the other two ended.  I feel like I have to find a movie of this novel too. Was one made? Does anyone know?

Writing Binge

Now it was time for a writing binge. It felt amazing! It’s the first time since November that I’ve written over 1000 words. Yikes.

Anyway I told my husband about my idea for getting my two main characters to spend time together and he didn’t think it was realistic. Initially I didn’t really care what he thought (wife of the year award right there). But after thinking about it and writing it out how I wanted, I realized he was right so I fixed it. Twice. I think. Hopefully he’ll agree with this so I don’t have to change it again and so I can move forward.

I’m actually happier with it now that I changed it so I really should listen to him more than I do when it comes to my writing.

Do you have someone that you bounce ideas off? Do you ignore them only to find out that they were right after all?

Reading Binge

I’ve been on a reading binge lately. I just can’t put either of my books down. I just finished Tick Tock by James Patterson, and I loved it and I’m also reading The Tennant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte. I’m close to finishing that one too. I’m pulling an all nighter tonight as I’m in for work at 4 am (not looking forward to it but it will be nice to be done at 8 am do I really shouldn’t complain too much). So I’ll probably finish it tonight.

I’ve also got a book in at the library, The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson, assuming I didn’t wait too long to pick it up. Figures, I start a book club and then the book I ordered a couple mobths ago finally comes in. Oh well, I was born with a reading list that I will never finish.

What are you reading? I’m always looking for new books.

Sorry I Haven’t Blogged in a While

I just haven’t really done anything worth blogging about. I wrote once last week and I’ve read a lot and that’s about it.

I don’t think that the scene I was going to add is going to work. I’m still playing around with it, but I’m having a hard time getting it set up. So it might be back to the drawing board. I have an hour lunch tomorrow so I’ll try and think of something else.

As for the reading, I’m trying to finish Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice, so I can start my book for book club. (Sorry ladies, I haven’t started yet, but I did get it from the library. I’m hoping to start in the next couple days). I’m also reading The Tennant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte. I figured I read books by the other two sisters so I should make it fair. I’ll compare them on a latter blog post when I finish this one.

Other than that nothing too exciting has been going on in my life.

I Started a Book Club

I’ve had a bad case of the winter blues this year. I think it was mainly boredom and not seeing the sun for over two weeks. (See my other blog for more details on that) So, as a way to quench the boredom I toyed with the idea of starting a book club. The idea was to get me to read other books that I normally wouldn’t, and it was something to do.

I talked it over with my mom, and with her encouragement, I decided to go ahead with it. I’ve got four lovely ladies who agreed to join me in this project, and I’m truly looking forward to reading what the recommended.

Now, this isn’t going to be a typical book club where the members get together physically and discuss. This is solely going to be an online group. Which is great for me as I’m an introvert and I speak better with my fingers. So I created a group on Facebook called, wait for it…Book Club. Creative I know. The writer in me is just awe inspired.

Let me know if you’re interested in the list of books we chose or in joining. This is not just for women, so don’t feel left out if you’re a man. I’d enjoy getting  male perspectives on the books that we’re reading.

What have you guys been up to lately?
